I remember when no one knew what a “Virtual Assistant” was. I remember the bewildered look on peoples’ faces when I told them what I “do”. Then there was the awkwardness of trying to explain exactly what that meant and how it would be beneficial for corporations and entrepreneurs alike. This was back in 2003, and back then, not everyone was understanding this.
In the past few years, the term “Virtual Assistant” and “VA” seem to be more common and well known in the business community. This is huge – because there is no longer the need for that awkward explaination.
For a long time, I have felt that, although more businesses and entrepreneurs are using VAs, they don’t always understand what that relationship would look like, especially if they are used to a corporate environment, with an assistant physically sitting a desk, just outside their office.
Developing that relationship, communication of your expectations and understanding what your VA can and will do for you is very important. Remember, your VA is a business owner/entrepreneur, too. He/She will likely have certain rules & regulations that will apply to you (the client). Keeping this in mind will ensure that a good relationship – one that will last for a long time – can be built and maintained.
I borrowed this infographic from Chris Ducker’s site. I couldn’t resist sharing it, because it’s completely awesome! Take a look and check out his article on Working with Virtual Assistants.
