Choosing color palettes is a huge part of building your branding and developing your logo and web design.
According to the Institute for Color Research, between 62% and 90% of the subconscious judgments we make about a person, environment, or product within the first 90 seconds are based on color alone. That should drill home how important your color scheme is to your branding and your overall website design.
Your color palette is a huge part of building your branding and developing your logo design. We have a very specific approach, which allows us to help our clients envision what the final version of their design can potentially look like.
Provide us with links to photos you find attractive and esthetically pleasing. You will find you are attracted to a very specific palette which can be found in photos of nature, sunsets, water – even cupcakes, to name a few.
Here is a great example of a color palette we created from a photo of fall leaves:
Photographs are often color inspiration for web design, as is the case of the above color palette. Our eyes recognize the color relation by instinct, which in turn provides a strong connection for the user. When you borrow a smaller amount of color inspiration from a photo, additional parts of the layout are brought to our attention. Use this method to emphasize your logo, your navigation, or your call to action.
We typically limit the color palette to five colors.
DO use colors that contrast to indicate importance or relevance to items on-screen.
DO use colors that convey information. A red box with an “X” in it is pretty ubiquitous in its translation as “Close”. Having your “Close” box suddenly be green might throw people off.
BEWARE the double-meaning problem with colors. This is when one color is primarily used to mean one thing (if all links are blue), and then you start using it for other things (if suddenly all your image captions are blue). This may confuse those looking at your website.
If you are in the market for a new logo design, or are considering “freshening-up” your current branding, we should talk. Our design consultations will offer you clarity around the right direction to take your logo, branding or website.
